Travel Journal - Sorrento and Capri

What a hotel

The hotel sits on a cliff on the ocean. The lobby and most of the place is blue and white tile, the outside walls have fake marble half eggs - all white and blue with windows, walls, tiled patios.

Exploring the grounds I discovered brick and stone winding paths to various gardens with gazebos, private sitting areas, caves and swans.

Sorrento

The town is charming with old tall buildings and meandering through it was a kick.

Lunch at a sidewalk café for a Caprese salad and photographing the town was a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Inlayed woodwork is their specialty and the work was amazing. Not cheap, but well worth it.

Capri

Beautiful as it is, I would reconsider my activities in Capri. Letting someone convince me to go to the Grotto was not the smartest decision I made. Massive numbers of people waiting in exhaust fume spewing boats idling for 45 minutes. Then loaded into row boats that took us into the cave. Finally in our rowboat we crouched uncomfortably low in order to get through the small opening.

Once inside this aqua color water cave phenomenon, the water was an amazing translucent pale blue. We rowed around the parameter of the smaller cave and then out again. It sure didn´t take very long!
